How to keep it under ¥10,000

Book room-only (sudomari) plans, travel Sunday–Thursday, and use the town's public baths instead of a private in-room bath. Weekday rates are often 30–40% lower than Saturday rates.

Tattoos and etiquette

Many public baths still restrict tattoos; Beppu, Kinosaki and Nozawa are relatively relaxed. Read our onsen etiquette guide before you go.
