Approximate fares: the one-way fares below are typical reserved-seat Shinkansen/limited express figures (base fare + express surcharge) in yen and are rounded estimates. Fares and the pass price change — confirm on the official Japan Rail Pass site and JR operators' sites, and edit any number here.
Things the calculator can't see
- The pass is consecutive days — journeys outside the pass window don't count.
- Nozomi and Mizuho trains on the Tokaido/Sanyo/Kyushu Shinkansen require an extra supplement ticket for pass holders (introduced in October 2023). Hikari and Sakura are included.
- Subways, most buses and private railways (Odakyu to Hakone, Tobu to Nikko, Kintetsu to Nara, Keikyu) aren't covered.
- Regional passes may be much cheaper for the area you're visiting.
