The gassho-zukuri houses were built to withstand heavy snow, and their large attics were once used for silkworm farming. Several remain lived-in family homes, while others operate as museums, restaurants or guesthouses — Ogimachi is a living village, not an open-air museum.
Most visitors come as a stop between Takayama and Kanazawa. Day-trippers crowd the village from late morning to mid-afternoon; staying overnight in a farmhouse minshuku lets you experience it quietly in the evening and early morning.

- Shiroyama observation deck: The classic postcard view over the village. A short uphill walk or a shuttle bus from the village centre.
- Wada House: The largest gassho house in Ogimachi, once home to a wealthy family, open as a museum.
- Kanda House & Nagase House: Other historic houses where you can climb into the multi-level attics to see the roof structure.
- Gassho-zukuri Minkaen: An open-air museum of relocated farmhouses across the river, with craft demonstrations.
- Myōzen-ji temple: A temple complex with a thatched bell tower and main hall.
- Winter light-up: On selected evenings in January and February the village is illuminated. In recent years access has been limited to reserved tours, shuttle buses and overnight guests — check the official site well in advance.

- Hida beef: Grilled skewers and croquettes from street stalls.
- Gohei-mochi: Flattened rice cakes on sticks, grilled with a sweet miso or walnut glaze.
- Mountain vegetables & river fish: Sansai and grilled char (iwana) are staples of farmhouse dinners.
- Doburoku: Unfiltered home-style sake associated with the October Doburoku Festival.
交通方式與當地移動
Highway buses connect Shirakawa-go with Takayama (around 50 minutes), Kanazawa (around 75–85 minutes), Toyama and Nagoya. Seats should be reserved in advance and sell out at peak times. There is no train station. The JR Pass does not cover these buses.
Driving is possible, but parking fills up at peak times and roads can be snowy in winter.
The village is small and flat, easily walked in a couple of hours. Coin lockers are limited — consider sending large luggage on to your next hotel or using lockers at the Takayama or Kanazawa bus terminals.

- 奢華飯店與溫泉旅館: There are no large hotels in Ogimachi; for upscale ryokan, look to Takayama, Okuhida or the Hokuriku coast.
